Hi,I have been taking Hydroxy for almost 6 months and so far so good. Recent blood tests have been good and my liver function has improved as it had been abnormal for several months.I see the Rheumy consultant Dec.22nd and she will decide if I stay on the drug. Brenda.

Yesterday after taking hydroxychloroquinine for 5 days I suffered side effects with stomach cramps, visiting the loo often and then feeling so sick. I have not taken one today and will start again after Christmas. I need my few days away hopefully without any problems. Had bad experiences at Christmas for about 5 years and determined to enjoy this one!!

hi, i am on hydroxychloroquine, and have been for the past 3 yrs. That all the medication i have been on for my RA apart from the steroid injections to relieve the pain. The reason i am on Hydrox, is because the other meds MTX and Sulph... is bad for my liver. I also have PBC another rotten auto-immune disease of the bile duct. I am having a flare-up at the moment, but i would prefer to stay on the hydrox for the time being.

Hi Jenni,
Nice to "see" you again.
Have they thought about anti-tnfs at all? I don't know if they are compatible with your liver condition or not.
Hi Sue, Sorry to hear the hydroxy is causing you problems, I think you are right to cut them down over Christmas.

I only take hydroxy but with 5mg daily of steroids so I don't know if this counts.

Hi Joan, Been on Hydro for 18 months, 200 mg daily, My rheumy trying to bring down my steroids, put it up to 400mg daily, When I went to see him again I told him I did not believe it was doing me any good so he reduced it to 200mg daily. While this was going on I developed tinnitus a recurring bad head and sore eyes. I had my eyes tested and was told there was no problem, I asked my GP about the headaches but was told they could be anything ! So I contacted my rheumy nurse again and told her I was not happy with the drug, explained the headaches and sore eyes etc, while she did not agree that the drug could be causing them she told me to stop taking until my next appointment(in about 3 months) and the matter could be discussed. Since stopping my eyes are no longer sore and the headaches have disappeared, now if only I could get rid of the tinnitus.

John. I've had sore, red looking eyes and have had to resort to wearing my driving glasses to watch TV since starting Hydroxychloroquine (400mg daily) 6 weeks ago. I noticed the eye problem virtually immediately. I suppose I should have my eyes re-tested but have been hoping to find a FREE eye test voucher in the local newspaper! Like you, I'm going to ask if I can stop Hydroxy (and steroids) at my next Rheumy appointment in 3 weeks. Hopefully by then the increased MTX (15mg weekly) will be working. Carol

Hi John,
Are you on an anti-inflammatories - I've had tinnitus since taking Naproxyn - have been on it for over 6 months but can't move without it (with methotrexate and Hydroxy). The tinnitus only started with the anti inflams though.

Hi Julie, Prednisolone. At the moment 7.5 mg daily, has been around 20 but normally 10, my rheumy trying to bring it down, Methotrexate weekly but because i stopped the hydroxy, nothing else at moment. If it was the prednisolone then reluctantly i would have to put up with it.
Thanks, john.

Hi
Iam on hydroxc 400mg and 5mg Steriods daily. I have been taking it for about 2 months now. This week I have been getting some tinitus and headaches however I think i may be coming down with something rather than it being the drugs. However if it does persist thenI will refer back to my consultant. I think its hard to say whether or not the drugs are working yet. Obviously the steriods cut down the symptoms anyway. To my mind is whether it stops teh other stuff happening like erosions that concern me.
However I do feel that the RA has eased a bit this last week I suppose its far too early to tell, there could be a multiple of reasonsl. I would like to get off the predisilone so if i stay like this I will ask at my next visit to get weaned off it.
All the best
Mari

Hiya,
Just taking Hydroxy 200mgs bd for 3 months as can't tolerate anything else. No side effects, but don't think it is making any difference at all. Waiting to start Humira, and will continue with Hydroxy. ( Just started Prednisolone to keep me going in the meantime)
all best Alison
